Dear Metta,
Can you give me a good strategy for living my life?
signed~Stratergy Seeker
Dear Strategy Seeker,
For what would on the surface appear to be a simple
one line question, there are, to me, many layers.
First, lets look at the word "good". I'm sure I could give you a strategy
that I would consider to be good; however, since "good"
is a matter of perspective & perception, it may not be your idea of "good".
(Do I offer "good" advice? If so, I may have to rethink that...
'cause my answers are free... "good" costs extra).
Secondly, do you know where you are...or,
where you want to go? I believe in being open and allowing
Spirit to be your guide. In fact, let Spirit set the course,
navigate and drive while you sit back and enjoy the ride.
Just as if you're in New Jersey and want to get to California a map helps,
so does knowing where you are and where you want to go in life.
That doesn't necessarily mean that there won't be detours and construction ahead or,
that you won't get tied up in traffic during rush hour.
However, when those "opportunities" arise, enjoy the moment &
be open to the alternate routes. It may take you out of the way
or put you behind schedule but, in Reality, there is only
the time that's been created for humans convenience
(or not) and on this new path (or alternate route)
God may have something wonderous for you to see or experience,
if you just don't resist it. In other words,
(cause some things are worth repeating...and, I need some "filler" on my page),
be clear about what it is that you desire,
visualize yourself already in that state of beingness and/or doingness,
through setting and living out of your intention and purpose.
And, live your life as though you already have, or are doing, that which you desire.
Now, aren't you glad I don't charge by the word?
Happy trails...enjoy the journey...
Metta
Dear Metta,
I've heard that you can attain "enlightenment" by simplifying.
What do you think?
Signed ~ On the path
Dear On(e),
I too have heard that often said and while I agree to a point,
I can't fully embrace any belief system that
eliminates shopping from the equation : )
To me, "simplifying" means more than letting go
of material things. Afterall, if it was just a matter
of cleaning out the closet and drawers we'd practically
all be enlightened and there would be
no war, poverty, or....oh, yeah...that's another subject.
Anyway, I believe that at least part of the answer is that
we have to let go of anything that's not constructive...
any feelings of negativity, resentment, etc...in other words,
emotional clutter...not just eliminating material things.
If you have "things" that no longer serve you then it will open you to
"the flow" of the universe by releasing & circulating them however,
I don't believe that just letting go of material things is enough
on its own. While some would say that by letting go
of the material thingsyou have more time to be "at one",
I believe that Spirit/God (any name you choose to call it)
is everywhere present...
including in those red pumps or blue high-tops you bought last week.
Dear Metta,
Do you think its good to have a plan?
Signed, Planner in Motown
Dear Planner,
Different things work differently for different people
(unless of course it's a universal law in which case it will work for anybody, anytime).
That being said, my experience is that if I don't have a plan then I flounder.
And, in order to be a proper flounder, I would have to remove an eye
and put it on the other side of my face,
which could be painful and make it very hard to see.
Enjoy making plans...but, remember to be flexible
and open to the many changes and opportunities the universe gives...
(And, while you're at it, why not pull all the stops and make a list too : ))
Dear Metta,
"My friends say I have "Issues".
Can I take a pill or something for that? Signed ~ Ivegot Issues
Dear Ivegot.
Of course, the short answer is yes. However,
I'm not known for a short anything other than my height.
While you can opt for a "pill", personally I would opt
for the"or something".Many times
(so many that a whoa is me is called for) I'vebeen
in a position of dealing with"issues"
and what worked best for me was
to get in touch with the "issues",
define what they were, stop "claiming" them
("my" issues vs "the" issues)and most importantly,
allowing myself to feel the feelings...
I also made sure there were plenty of tissues for the issues, on hand.
My favorite excercise for letting go of issues
is to go on a rock hunt
and collect rocks of all shapes and sizes
that represent the issues,
(ie - this rock represents getting fired & this rock represents
being stood-up, etc...). Put them in a sack
and when you can't think ofanything else (or your sack is full),
tie it around your waistand haul it around.
At some point,( I hope) you will become tired
of hauling around the "baggage".
At that point, cut it off and surrender it to the Universe,
taking notice of how light you feel after releasing it.
If nothing else, you will burn some calories
carrying the extra weight so, you win, no matter what.
Now, doesn'tthat sound like fun???
Dear Metta,
Every year, at this time, it's the same ol' thing. The sky is grey.
I go to work in the dark and come home in the dark.
How do I deal with the change of the seasons.
Signed, In the Dark
Dear In the Dark,
At the risk of dating myself, I think
The Byrds sang it best with
"To every thing turn, turn, turn...there is a season, turn, turn, turn..."
And, if you don't get dizzy and go boom you'll get to get up and do it again the next day.
Holding you in the light,
Metta
Dear Metta,
What does it mean to "follow your bliss"?
Signed - Wondering
Dear Wondering,
Your bliss is basically that something (or those somethings) that make your heart sing...
give you a lot of joy...make you smile...and feed your soul.
To identify what your bliss might be, think about what you enjoyed
pretending to be as a youngster....a teacher...a fireman...a nurse....
(I spent a lot of time pretending to be a princess myself).
That being said, it doesn't mean it's always easy.
Sometimes, for example, if it involves a new area of employment
it means that you have to go back to school for a different degree.
Or, if you're a musician that you have to do another job to pay the bills
while you're waiting for your "big break".
The long-term gratification will be worth it though.
Remember, while you're on the path and "following your bliss"
to wear comfortable shoes so you don't get bliss-ters : )
And, also remember at some point to stop "following your bliss"
and begin to walk with your bliss...live your bliss...
Dear Metta,
If you drool and no one's there to see do you still get wet?
Dear Drooler,
Well, it's not very often that I get such an "intellectual" question however,
although I believe that you're still going to "get" wet whether someone
is there to see it or not....in order to really expIore this,
wouldn't the question really be are you going to "feel" the wet?
I say this because if you're going to feel the wet depending on the circumstances
(such as weather, and what you're doing at the time)
it could be a tad uncomfortable.
In the meantime, as you continue to explore this question
(or issue, as the case may be)
I suggest you invest in some trendy but tasteful bibs.
Dear Metta,
Do you think life is strange?
Signed....Wondering
Dear Wondering,
Some days I do and I think it gets a little stranger every day.
And, sometimes that's a little scary.
Then I realize that it's not life that's strange.
It's just the people in it.
You just have to remember that it's also mostly wonderful and focus on that...
If that doesn't work for you then revert to "Plan B".
Peace,
Metta
